Mechanical Design – Bespoke services for the energy industry

Cognity's engineers can evolve designs from the briefest of concepts to innovative, practical engineered solutions, over very short timescales. We use 3D CAD to visualise designs, allowing complex features to be explored and developed in real-time. Detailed analysis, introduced at an early stage, enables the design to be optimised, refined and prototyped, all within a simulated environment. This virtual prototyping means we only have to produce one prototype for testing, before design certification and straight to production.

We specialise in non-linear analysis, fatigue, plasticity, shakedown and multi-body analysis, which allows us to explore and optimise complex mechanical and structural components in the highest levels of detail. Our advanced software and state-of-the-art hardware means that large analyses and simulation models can be run quickly and concurrently, saving you time and money.

Structural Design – New techniques and innovative solutions

Cognity structural design services encompass topside and subsea fabrications, including riser bases and mid-water arches, sea-fastenings, work baskets and lifting frames. We have the resources to handle all types of structural design projects, applying new techniques to shorten your production times and reduce costs. We can investigate complex areas of structures using Finite Element Analysis (FEA), which removes unnecessary conservatism from even the most complex designs.

Intelligently applied FEA allows detailed examination of ageing structures and enables a revised assessment of remaining fatigue life. This information can safely extend the life of many assets, generating massive cost savings for your company.

Draughting – Fully integrated professional services

2D machining and manufacturing drawings often form part of our project deliverables. The Cognity draughting team is fully integrated with our design and analysis engineers to ensure design drawings are delivered quickly and accurately.

We can also create 3D images of concepts or final products for use in marketing, training manuals, client presentations and on your website.

3D Printing and Rapid Prototyping – Visualise designs quickly and easily

Cognity's rapid prototyping service quickly creates robust and beautifully finished items. Ready for concept validation, design visualisation, demonstration and training purposes.

Our in-house Objet Eden 350 gives exceptional levels of detail and prints in a wide range of engineering plastics and elastomers. Unlike traditional machining, complex parts and assemblies can be printed in a matter of hours, ready for immediate collection or delivery.
