Design Draughters

Cognity is currently seeking experienced Design Draughters to join our growing team in Aberdeen.

Successful applicants will be qualified in Engineering or Design related discipline (HNC minimum). A strong design focus with the ability to generate creative ideas and solve problems is essential, and you will be undertaking 2D and 3D drafting on engineering projects. Design Draughters are actively involved in all stages of the project, from ideas generation and problem solving, to optimization and final drawings for manufacture.

The Role

• Provide extensive creative design input during conceptual stages of engineering and design optimisation
• Work autonomously and part of a team to develop concepts through to completion, applying sound engineering judgment throughout
• Produce engineering drawings that are sufficiently and clearly detailed for machining and manufacture, drawn to BS 8888 and comply with in-house QA/QC
• Prepare and de-feature 3D CAD geometry for analysis/ FEA, and ensure subsequent design improvements are correctly reflected on the CAD geometry
• Generate high quality 3D animations and 2D rendered images for client presentations
• Use industry codes, guidelines and best-practices throughout all aspects of work
• Manage drawing workflow and ensuring engineering drawings are checked and approved within agreed timescales by authorised personnel

Skills and Competencies Required

• Ability to problem solve, evaluate and optimise engineering concepts through to finalised designs
• Highly proficient in 2D and 3D CAD and sound understanding of BS 8888 (AutoCAD and Inventor preferred but not essential)
• Significant experience in checking and approving both machining and fabrication drawings
• Ability to work individually and as part of a collaborative team
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Oil and Gas / Energy Industry experience preferred but not essential
