Principal Engineers

Cognity is currently seeking Principal Engineers to join our growing team in Aberdeen.

Successful applicants will hold an engineering degree; will have achieved Chartered, or ideally Fellow status with a Chartered Institute. A proven track record in successful problem solving, mechanical design and detailed analysis is essential. Principal Engineers are actively involved in all aspects of consulting, project leadership and staff mentoring.

The Role

• Providing in-depth technical advice, support and expert guidance to clients
• Responsible for technical delivery, checking and approval of reports and client deliverables
• Execution and delivery of technical work including detailed FEA, mechanical design and structural analysis
• Supervision, mentoring and actively sharing engineering knowledge with junior staff
• Liaising with clients and maintaining or growing client relationships, managing bids and proposals

Skills and Competencies

• Expert knowledge and experience in mechanical design, with a proven ability to problem solve, evaluate and optimise designs
• Extensive experience and detailed understanding of Finite Element Analysis (ANSYS or Abaqus preferred), and applying this to practical design applications
• Complex 3D modelling and CAD experience, including checking and approving machining/fabrication drawings
• Ability to work individually and as part of a collaborative team
• Strong commercial awareness
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Oil and Gas / Energy Industry experience preferred but not essential
