Engineering Consultancy Cognity Launches Rapid Prototyping Service

Following significant investment in an Objet Eden 350 3D printer, independent engineering consultancy, Cognity, has expanded its services to include a specialist Rapid Prototyping service. It is understood that the company now boasts the newest and largest printer of this kind in the area and is the only company in Aberdeen to offer 3D printing as a commercial service to its clients.

This cutting-edge technology enables Cognity to create highly accurate, finely detailed, three dimensional prototypes, with resolutions of up to 1600 dpi, and dimensional accuracy to ±0.016mm, which gives printed parts the same accuracy as traditional precision machined components.

With the ability to print detailed, large and complex models using photopolymer materials up to 340 x 340 x 200mm in size, 3D printing offers an ultrafast turnaround alternative to machining.  The printer can print in a wide range engineering plastics, rigid and flexible, coloured and transparent, and can also print elastomers in a selection of durometers.

It is also a very cost-effective method for creating demonstration pieces for staff training and marketing.

“Our extensive experience and expertise in design and advanced analysis has allowed Cognity to build an enviable reputation within the oil and gas industry, and we are delighted to expand our capabilities in this way.”

Cognity offers specialist mechanical design and advanced analysis using cutting-edge ANSYS engineering simulation software, as well as delivering structural design and draughting services.
