Cognity Expands Expert Team

Expanding Aberdeen-based engineering consultancy Cognity has celebrated its first year in business with the recruitment of two more key members of staff.

The appointment of consultant Richard Carroll and senior designer Stuart Rothnie further enhances Cognity’s offering to the international oil and gas industry and brings another 20 years’ experience to the business.

Richard, 37 of Grimsby, a member of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers, has extensive experience of structural and stress analysis in the aero, nuclear and petro-chemical industries. A graduate of Sheffield Hallam University, his career has taken him from apprentice fitter to consultant engineer specialising in numerical and classical stress analysis and design in various industries.

Stuart, 23 of Aberdeen, specialises in innovative design and the implementation of systems, procedures and specifications. He is widely experienced in project design, feasibility and design improvements, including the preparation of calculation packages.

His knowledge of design and manufacturing allows him to contribute practical solutions to everyday problems within design projects through the use of conventional methods and modern modelling and finite element analysis techniques.

Rae Younger, managing director of Cognity, says, “These new appointments round off a great first year for Cognity and will ensure we continue to develop the cutting-edge solutions which will keep us at the forefront of the industry.

“When Cognity launched it had just two members of staff. Due to the volume of work we have secured over the year, which has seen us exceed our projected year one turnover by almost half a million, Cognity now boasts a ten-strong team”.

Cognity has secured around £1 million worth of business since its inception last June, including contracts to provide specialist mechanical design and advanced analysis to companies including Castle Rock Engineering Ltd, Geoprober Drilling and MPO (Managed Pressure Operations).

Aberdeen based Cognity offers specialist mechanical design and advanced analysis using cutting-edge ANSYS engineering simulation software, as well as delivering structural design anddraughtingservices. With its unique capability of combining innovative engineering and robust analysis, Cognity assists its clients in developing new ideas and groundbreaking products for the global energy industry.
